Obituary

Fox, Miriam Louise (Syda), 1924-2020. Just 3 days after her 96th birthday on August 26th, she passed away peacefully at the Villa St. Joseph -du-Lac, Dayton, where she resided for over 2 years, with family at her side. She was the daughter of the late Keith and Jennie (MacAlpine). She spent her early years in Hassett’s, Digby Co. with her grandparents, Douglas and Rosie (Babin) MacAlpine. After graduating from high school, she worked at the John Hancock building in Boston. She met her future husband, Charles Fox, in Summerville, Mass. In 1958 they moved to Port Maitland, NS where she worked at various jobs including Bonda Foods, Tidal View Manor and the Yarmouth Hospital Expansion. She is survived by her sons, Glenn (Lucie) and Charles (Pat); 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson. She was such a kind, gentle, loving lady who will be greatly missed by those who hold a special place in their heart for her. Glenn and Lucie would like to thank the amazing, awesome, kind and compassionate staff at the Woodland Villa for their kindness and care given to Miriam during her stay at the Villa. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 pm, Monday, August 31st, from the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. I am so sorry for the loss of your Mother, Miriam. She was a great lady and the member of a great family.

My name is William T Rogers. Through my study of Genealogy and the amount of time I spent on the Fox and Hamilton Families, I feel very close to both of these names. Our connection is through Miriam Hamilton 1821-1891, the mother of Deidamia (Annie) Gayton 1861-1917, the wife of Charles Fox 1851-1937. They had five girls and two boys. It is interesting to note that most of them were given Gayton as their second names. My Great Grandmother was Ida Hamilton, the connection. Of all my Genealogy research, the Fox Family has been the most interesting and rewarding, especially since I have found Charles and Glen living in my home town. I am presently in contact with one of your cousins, Lynn Roberts who lives in Virginia with his mother.

Again, I am so sorry for the loss of your Mother, Miriam.
