Obituary for Kenneth Lewis Rodney

Kenneth Lewis  Rodney
Kenneth Lewis Rodney, age 90, of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, passed away in hospital on Monday, July 25th, 2016, after living independently until the last six days of his life. Born in Yarmouth, son of the late Lewis and Ruth (Hicks) Rodney. Ken was a member of Beacon United Church, and formerly a member of Zion Baptist Church. Being active in his community was a way of life for Ken. As a youth, he joined the Young Men’s Christian Association and remained a member and contributor to the YMCA his entire life. Some of his numerous volunteer activities included coaching youth baseball, the Yarmouth Y’s Men’s Club, Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce, Yarmouth Development Authority, Yarmouth Regional Business Corporation Limited, Beacon United Church, YMCA Camp Wapomeo Board of Directors, and Boy Scouts of Canada. During his life, Ken worked as a fish reduction plant worker, a bookkeeper, a professional photographer, a shopkeeper, and a Customs Broker. He was a member of the Commercial Press Photographers Association of Canada, a founding member of The Canadian Institute of Customs House Brokers, and a member of the Canadian Society of Customs Brokers. Ken was predeceased by Ruby (Zwicker), his wife of 55 years. He is survived by son Bruce and daughter Susan (Ron) Janes, New Zealand. Ken was the beloved granddad of Megan, and beloved uncle of very special nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2016 from 7-9 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 2 P.M. from Beacon United Church with Rev. Sharon Lohnes officiating. Interment will follow in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Y.M.C.A in Yarmouth.
