PITMAN, George Burton – age 83 of Beaver River, Yarmouth Co., N.S. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday February 4, 2018. Born in Pembroke, Yarmouth Co., N.S. on July 22, 1934 he was a son of the late Ross and Pearl (Sanders) Pitman. George was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force for 25 years where he was an engine tech and a long time Royal Canadian Legion member where he spent 59 years with various branches. George was an avid outdoorsman loving to hunt, fish, and spend time in the woods. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family. In his later years he loved BINGO, chase the ace, and having his morning coffee with his buddies. George is survived by his loving wife, Joan Ayres; sister, Margaret Stubbert, Trenton ON; children, Judy (Bruce), Kingston N.S.; Wayne (Brenda); Gary (Gloria), Eastern Passage, N.S.; grandchildren, Robin(Dave), Donna(Michel), Christopher(Vanessa), Duane (Julie), Brian(Katie),Matthew(Lauren), Christine(Andrew), Ryan(Kayla),Kimberlee; thirteen great-grandchildren, stepchildren, Harry(Theresa), Ricky and Michael Ayres and his niece and nephews. Besides his parents George was predeceased by his son, Neil. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A joint legion service and memorial service will be held Thursday February 8, 2018 at 2 P.M. from Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. A.D “Bill” Newell officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
