Obituary for Tressell Leslene "Tressie" Crowell
Tressie Leslene Crowell
Tressie was born in November 10,1923 to Elisabeth (Trask) and Albert Matheson. She was the last remaining sister to 11 siblings. Tressie spent her early years in Woods Harbour before taking housekeeping and caregiving work in Argyle. She married Ralph Crowell in 1945 and had 3 children. She is survived by daughters Dianne Crowell and Alice Andrews and predeceased by her husband Ralph and daughter Joyce. Tressie, like many woman of her era, believed in civic duty and helping others in need. She was dedicated to the Women’s Institute and her church. She enjoyed TOPS and was always game for yearly trips to meet with other chapters. Well known for her music abilities, she played several instruments; the piano, mouth organ, juice harp and her favorite the guitar. She enjoyed singing and loved to harmonize or show off her yodeling abilities. Along with her husband, Ralph, she assisted in seasonal fisheries, helped run business ventures and was caretaker of the Argyle Lodge for nearly 30 years. Appreciated for her cooking and baking skills there was always a place at her table and a treat for young and old and those in between. Tressie’s last years were spent at Nakile nursing home where she was known for her quick wit and her determination to always want to go home. She valued the care she received and now is finally home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Friday May 11, 2018 from 7-9 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held Saturday May 12th 2018 at 3:30 p.m. from the Argyle Historic Church with Rev. A.D. “Bill” Newell officiating . Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
