Pinner, Ruth Shirley, 94, Arcadia passed away peacefully at her home on August 17,2019. Born in Arcadia, March 29,1925 she was a daughter to the late Jack and Elizabeth (Renef) Lambert. Mrs. P was a much-loved lady with more talents than she ever realized. Letter writing and her ability to connect and stay engaged with people of all ages and walks of life, right up until the day she died, were just two of many. Those of us who loved her, will miss her and hold our cherished memories close to our hearts. Knowing that she was able to fulfill her last wish and die in the home that she loved, will comfort us as we move forward. Ruth was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all. We will remember her laughter, her quick wit and sense of humor and her dedication and strong work ethic as the lady who retired her rags and scrub bucket at the age of 82 years young. There will never be another like her. We are all richer for having been fortunate enough to have had her, as a part of our lives! She is survived by daughters Bonnie (David) Fraser, Cheggogin; Ruth Harrington, Chebogue; sons Donald (Dot) Pinner, Arcadia; Ralph (Mary) Pinner, Tusket; Robert (Norma) Pinner, Port Maitland; sister Bertha Deveau, Yarmouth; 19 grandchildren; many great and great great grandchildren. Aside from her parents she was predeceased by her husband Eric; son Sonny; daughter Doris; sisters Myrtle Dunn and Dot Purdy. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Visitation will be Monday, August 19, 2019 from 7-9 pm. from the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, August 20,2019 at 2pm., also in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Robert Gates officiating. Interment to take place in the Arcadia Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund. On-line condolences may be sent to: or you may sign the guestbook online at:

Mrs. Pinner, as our family always called her, was a person we definitely wanted to see each summer when we came ‘home’ to vacation in the Yarmouth area. We made sure that each Friday we would be at our mother’s/grandmother’s home to visit so that we all had a chance to see Mrs. P. (that was her day with Mom/Gram). She made each of us feel extra special and it made us all realize just how ‘extra special’ she herself was. She was a very good friend and was her ‘life line’ later in life as mom became physically more dependent on others. Our whole family loved her dearly and will remember her always with great fondness. My heart is desperately saddened by the loss of this amazing soul. I always enjoyed visiting my grandmother and the days Mrs Pinner were there made it extra special. She always found a way to make me laugh while also making me feel so incredibly special.
Sincerest condolences to her family, friends, and to all whose lives have been touched by this wonderful woman.

Oh my goodness what an incredible lady. We’ve known Mrs Pinner for over 50 years. She absolutely loved my sister, Krista, who has past almost 5 years ago - together again. A few years ago I got a hand written letter from Mrs Pinner, all my God I was so impressed. She would have us in stitches all the time.. my son always called her Pinner Ruth 😘. Rest easy lady you have earned it. My sincerest condolences to the family.

I always loved visiting Nanny and Poppy Purdy because it also meant I would see Aunt Ruth. We always had so much fun with her and hanging out in her apartment and playing with Sara.
I think of Aunt Ruth from time to time and always think back on the time spent with her fondly. So lucky to have been able to spend the time with her.
Lots of love,
