Obituary for Leonard Gerald Cottreau

COTTREAU, Leonard “Gerald” – 87 of Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co., N,S passed away after a brief illness at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on December 8, 2013. Born on November 20, 1926 in Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co., N.S. he was a son to the late Leonard and Pearl (Betthel) Cottreau. Gerald was known to be a very hard worker and worked as a compositor in the USA for 22 years before moving back to Wedgeport to retire. Gerald was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and was a Msgr. W. E. Young Fourth Degree Assembly Knights of Columbus and Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council 2181. Gerald was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 155 Wedgeport. Gerald was a kind man and was known as person that was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was an avid volunteer with R.C.M.P Crime Prevention and even enjoyed hunting and the outdoors when he had spare time. Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Lorraine (Pottier), Wedgeport. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers, Norman and Randolph. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a Royal Canadian Legion Branch 155 service at 7:30 p.m. and prayers at 8 p.m. all in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. from Saint Michaels Catholic Church in Wedgeport with father Albéni d’Entremont officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
