Obituary for Laurence Raymond "Ray" Singer

Laurence Raymond "Ray"  Singer
SINGER, Laurence Raymond “ Ray”– 84 of the Meadow’s Home for Special Care passed away on December 3, 2013 at the Meadows. Born in Barrie, ON, on February 18, 1929, he was a son to the late Lawrence and Jean (Hutchinson) Singer. Ray was raised in Barrie Ontario with his two sisters and brother. He later moved to Toronto, Ontario where he met his wife Norma at the Temple Baptist Church, where they later married. There they also met many lifetime friends. Shortly after getting married Ray joined his brother in a very successful food business for 25 years. They later moved to Pickering, Ontario, settling at Frenchman’s Bay. There Ray’s passion for sailing led him into the boating industry. He also learned to fly and enjoyed taking the kids for aerial rides over the bay. Ray, Norma and the family enjoyed many years of camping, sailing and traveling abroad. Throughout his life Ray also loved to water ski, snow ski, play hockey , rugby and horseback riding. He had a great passion for his dogs as well. In keeping with the family tradition and love of singing, Ray could harmonize with the best of them. Ray was blessed with the joy of being a grandfather of six and a great grandfather of seven. Ray and Norma later moved to Nova Scotia together where they spent their last precious years together. Throughout his life Ray touched many hearts with his gracious charm, kind heart, great sense of humor and infectious smile. He would join in song with everyone. He will be greatly missed by his loving family but always in our hearts. Love you from all of us. Ray is survived by his loving wife Norma Doreen (Platt), The Meadows Home for Special Care; daughters, Susan (David) Boudreau, Wedgeport; Carolyn (John) Savage, Huntsville, ON; Marlene (Kevin) Turcotte, Port Perry, ON; Son, Gary ( Rhonda), Baileyville, Maine ; brothers, Orville (Pat) Singer , Vancouver Island; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters, Kathleen White and Gloria Morris. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. There will be no visitation as per request and a funeral service will be held at a later date. Donations in Ray’s memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, ON.
