Obituary for Kenneth Maury "Ken" Hood

Kenneth Maury "Ken" Hood
Hood, Kenneth Maury, 67, of Yarmouth, passed away at Yarmouth Regional Hospital on March 19, 2015. Born August 29, 1947 in Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Elaine MacConnell, and is remembered with love by daughter Audrey Jean, son Douglas Benoit and Doug's wife Stephanie Hood, granddaughters Kenadee Lynn and Delaney Rose, his brothers Roy and Richard and sisters-in law Helen and Eos, and ex-wife and mother of his children, Ginette Rose, and nieces Jennifer, Kaleigh and Rachael (daughters of Roy & Helen). He was predeceased by his son Bobby (Robert Kenneth) in 1995, his mother Elaine whom he cared for many years until her passing, as well as his nephew Christopher, beloved son of Roy & Helen. Ken was an entrepreneur throughout his life, trying his hand in several industries. In the 1980's, Ken founded and grew Cabelcor Inc, which became Canada's largest manufacturer and installer of computer cabling and networking. He was very proud of the service he provided through this enterprise. In his later years, Ken was known in Yarmouth through his service in driving taxi cabs. Ken was a man of fierce intelligence, who adored reading and had amassed a beautiful collection of books that was a source of pride for him. He was a fan of baseball and hockey, interested in history and politics, and enjoyed a good game of backgammon or cribbage. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Yarmouth Regional Palliative Care department, as well as his Respiratory Therapist and the Palliative Care Social Workers who helped support him and the family through his last days. As well, to Joey (a fellow cab driver and friend) and to Lyman and Charlie (his neighbours), all of whom assisted our father so much over the last 6 months in particular, as his health declined. It gives us comfort to know you were there for him in hours of need. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. There will be no funeral or visitation by family request. Donations in Memory may be made to a charity of your choice. On-line condolences may be sent to: sweenysfh@eastlink.ca or you may sign the guestbook on-line at: www.sweenysfuneralhome.net
Rest in Peace Ken.
