Obituary for Henry Herbert Smith

Henry Herbert  Smith
SMITH, Henry Herbert – age 82 of Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on October 13, 1932 in Port Maitland he was a son to the late Raymond and Florence (Mullen) Smith. Henry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved his family dearly. He was known fondly as “Grankin” or “Grank” by his grandchildren. Henry left home at a young age to work on the railroad in Ontario. In his later years Henry came back home, bought, and ran a lobster rig out of Port Maitland and Yarmouth for many years. Before retirement Henry also worked at the Rio Algom Tin Mine in East Kemptville for a time before it closed. Henry loved to hunt and spend time at his camp in East Kemptville. Henry is survived by his loving wife Effie(Roberts); children, Alan (Carol); Barry; Kevin (Sandy), all of Ontario; Karen (Craig) Patten of Kentville; sisters, Hazel (Doug) Trask, Sandford; Aleen (Leslie) Hicks, N.B; step children; Terry (Lexine) Pearce, Corner Brook, NFLD; James; Fraser (Brenda); Merrill (Dale) Pearce, all of Yarmouth; numerous grandchildren, cousins, and friends. Besides his parents Henry was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Smith; step daughter, Nina Park. He will be sadly missed by dear wife Effie, family and friends. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by family request. A graveside service will be held in the spring of 2015 in Chebogue Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
