Obituary for Guy Pierce Newman

Newman, Guy “Pierce” – aged 61, of Upper Clements, formerly of Toronto, passed away in Valley Regional Hospital on July 15, 2013. Born in Montreal, the eldest son of Eric and Velma Newman, Pierce was educated at Lower Canada College and McGill University. Pierce was proud to serve as a Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy Reserves. His working career spanned the banking, financial planning and IT industries, and he was also a published author. In 2010, Pierce and Peggy, his loving wife of 37 years, retired to Upper Clements, because of their love of Nova Scotia. Pierce was a wonderful human being, extremely gifted, loving and humorous, with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. As an animal lover, he was especially fond of his girls, Lucy and Fuzzy. In addition to Peggy, Pierce is survived by his brothers Lance (Catherine) of Toronto, Wayne (Deb) of Brampton, sister and brother-in-law Sandi and Martyn Bowler of Yarmouth, nieces and nephews Robyn (Kristen), Adam, Ryan and Megan and his little great-nieces, Kennedy, Charlotte and Avery. A celebration of Pierce’s life will be held at a later date. Special thanks to all Pierce’s caregivers - the VON, the Annapolis Valley Health Centre, the staff at VRH, Dr. Karen Burch and most especially, Dr. Ann Gordon. Donations in his memory may be made to Valley Regional Hospital Foundation (vrh.foundation@ns.sympatico.ca) and please sign your provincial organ donor card at www.legacyoflife.ns.ca. On-line condolences may be sent to sweenysfh@eastlink.ca or you may sign the guestbook on-line at www.sweenysfuneralhome.net.
