Sims, George Douglas (68 years) February 22, 1948 – October 10, 2016. George Sims of Plymouth, Yarmouth Co., N.S. passed away on October 10, 2016 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Yarmouth on February 22, 1948 he was a son to the late Frederick William Sims and Thelma Pearl (Tinkham) Sims. George was a person who loved life, his friends, and his family, especially his nieces and nephews who he thought of as his own grandchildren. He worked for the Department of Highways for over 40 years before retiring. George was an avid baseball player and fan of the Boston Red Sox. He was inducted into the Yarmouth Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the Yarmouth Gateways. In his spare time he loved music, spending time with his friends and family and taking care of his cats which he was especially fond of. He is survived by his siblings, Harold (Ellen) Sims, Pickering ON; Mary (Ritchie) Boyd, Dartmouth; Paul (Joyce) Sims, Plymouth; Dianne (Bob) Spike, Sackville, N.S. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. in Sweenys Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 14 at 2 P.M. in Sweenys Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Craig Minard officiating. Interment will follow in Plymouth Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory may be made to the New Heights Baptist Church, Plymouth Cemetery or the Yarmouth S.P.C.A.
