With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ethel Louise Watkins, our loving mother, grandmother, sister and loyal friend. Ethel passed away peacefully on October 5th, 2019, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 90. Born in Yarmouth on August 28, 1929, Ethel remained in Yarmouth all her life. As a young woman she worked at the Royal Store and the famous Harris’s Seafood Restaurant. Later she worked at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital in the dietary department until her retirement in 1994. She was much admired and respected by all those who knew her. She had a passion for her family, traveling, knitting, playing golf and watching sports, and was a loyal fan to the Toronto Blue Jays. Ethel was predeceased by her husband George Almond Watkins, parents Laura and Howard Thompson, sister Edna Durkee and brother Sonny Thompson. She is survived by her sister, Jane (Frank) Deveau; brother, Allan Ray Thompson; sister in-law, Anna Thompson; daughters, Marsha Watkins, Barbara Parker and Beverly (Olaf) Gobien; grandchildren, Dana (Jennifer), Laura (Jamie), Steven, Nikea, Angela (Johnnie), Andrew, Kay (Joe), Ian, Daniel, Maggie (Jay) Amber, and several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Dr. Marais, the palliative care team, nurses on 4 East, Tri County VON, and the paramedics for their amazing compassion and comfort to all of us, as well as her special friends from New Beginnings. To Ethels family,
My heart is filled with sorrow at the loss of your dear mother. I have many cherished childhood memories with my cousin Ethel in Overton. One thing that I will always remember is her love and dedication to her family. You are all in my thoughts at this time.
Sending this note with love,
Cousin Helen Brown, (Franklyn Thompson's daughter).

To all of Ethel's family and friends, I cannot begin to express how deeply saddened I am at her passing. Although it has been a long time since we had been in touch, something I will regret for the rest of my life, Ethel was never very far from my thoughts. I remember many, many wonderful times spent with Ethel, Sherry and Dottie, ones I will always hold dear. Ethel was one of the most amazing people I have ever been honoured to have as a friend, she will be sadly, sadly missed.
