He continued working with Aberdeen Paving until his retirement in 1985. Always a country boy at heart, Don loved hunting and fishing, oxen and cattle, his bountiful vegetable gardens and strawberry patches and the Blue Jays. He is survived by his son, Gary (Doreen) of Dartmouth; step-daughter-in-law Erma Harris, Norwood; granddaughters Jennifer Tinkham and Barbara Harris; grandsons Rusty, Lloyd and Scott Harris, step-sons Rick Gray, Dartmouth, Douglas Gray , Yarmouth, Gerald Gray, Yarmouth and Vaughn Gray, Dartmouth; his sister-in-law Joyce Tinkham, Dartmouth; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and step-mother, he was predeceased by his first wife, Frances, and his second wife, Hope; step-son Howard Harris; sisters Clara, Jessie, Vera and Adelaide; brothers George, William, Wilfred and Ralph; and step-brother Freeman Robinson.
