Obituary for Blanche Lillian Royal

Blanche Lillian Royal
ROYAL (Porter), Blanche Lillian “Mammie”– 84, of Wellington (Yarmouth Co.), NS, peacefully passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016 at Valley Regional Hospital, Annapolis Valley. Born April 17, 1931, Blanche was the youngest, and last surviving member of the late Bertell and Florence (Cook) Porter family of Yarmouth, NS. Blanche was dearly loved within her community and by the Port Maitland Church where she faithfully attended for many years. She enjoyed her career very much and made many friends working at the Royal Store, Motor Mart and lastly Rose Valley Trucking & Excavating where she retired in 1998. She spent a copious amount of years involved in the Yarmouth girl guides. Some of Blanche’s talents were demonstrated in her baking and knitting. She loved competing against her best friend and sister the late (Mickey) Muriel (Porter) Cann at the Yarmouth Exhibition for many years tallying up their ribbons. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers and sisters; her husband of 53 years, the late Benjamin Royal; and her daughter-in-law Peggy Royal. She was a loving wife, mother, mammie and great-mammie. She is survived by her three children; Carol (Royal) O’Connell of Kentville, NS; Jim (Veerle) Royal of Indian Head, SK; and Dale (Sarajane) Royal of Wellington, NS. Known as “Mammie” to her grandchildren; Cheyanne O’Connell (David Noseworthy), Devin (Sarah) O’Connell, Joshua Royal (Kayla Martinook), Benjamin (Stephanie) Royal, Stephanie (James) Nickerson and Glenna Royal (John Anderson) and great-grandchildren; Aliya & Julia O’Connell and was excited about a baby Nickerson on the way. The family would like to express sincere thanks to Jeff and Amy Rose for their years of generosity to Blanche and to Dr. Sinclair & Dr. Gunn for their kindness and friendship over the past couple of years. In addition, the family would like to also recognize the compassionate care from all the staff of Valley Regional Hospital. Visitation will take place Monday, January 18th from 6-8 pm at Sweeny's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth where funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 19th at 2 pm with Pastor Dale Robertson officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake George Cemetery and reception at the Lake George Fire Department thereafter. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to the Yarmouth S.P.C.A or to the Valley Regional Hospital.
