SWEENEY Helen Alice – age 97, of The Villa St Joseph du Lac and formerly of Cape Forchu, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on January 8, 2018 at The Villa St Joesph du Lac. Born in Yarmouth on April 18, 1920 she was a daughter to the late Allan and Louise (Comeau) Sweeney. Helen was a member of Saint Ambrose Cathedral and member of the Catholic Woman’s League in Shubenacadie. She worked for the Department of National Defence in C.F.B Cornwallis as a secretary for 20 years. Helen was also a proud member of the Friends of the Yarmouth Light. Always very positive and gracious she made sure to thank the staff of the Villa for taking such good care of her and the family would like to do the same. The last surviving member of her immediate family she was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Martha Gidney, Francis Lozirk; and brothers, Henry, Eddy, Fred, and Allan. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Cremation, Yarmouth. A memorial service will be held Friday January 12, 2018 at 2:00pm from Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with Father Henry Smolenaars officiating. Interment will take place at a later date as per Helen’s wishes. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to the CNIB or a charity of your choice.
