Obituary for Winston Churchill Spates

Winston Churchill Spates, 78 of Summerville, N.S., son of the late Rexford and Esther (Crosby) Spates, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Friday, January 10, 2020.After 30 years of service to the Canadian Armed Forces, he finished his career as the Senior Lab Technician for Maritime Command at CFB Halifax. Winston moved back home to Summerville and opened Coastal Dental Laboratory and operated it for the next twenty years. Throughout these years and until his passing he was very active. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trap and skeet shooting, and working in the woods. He was a very accomplished wood turner and was known by many for his wood bowls. He was also an avid musician and shared his passion with his family and friends. He was a member of several Bluegrass organizations over the years.Winston was predeceased by his siblings: Willard; Donald; Stanley; Vernon (in infancy); and Maude. He is survived by his sister Betty and brother Victor (Jan). He is also survived by his wife of 57 years Dorothy, his Children Alan, Dale (Colleen) and Esther (Nelson), along with his grandchildren Kari, Kyle, Jeremy and Nicolas.
He will be missed deeply by his family and friends. His music will play on forever in our hearts. XO
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 1-4pm at the South Ohio Community Hall. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
