Obituary for Walter Stelma

Stelma, Walter, 97 of Yarmouth passed away peacefully at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on September 1, 2019. Born in East Selkirk, Manitoba on October 7, 1921, he was a son of the late Fred and Nettie (Bosko) Stelma. Wally worked for the Manitoba Telephone Company until moving to Ontario in 1951, where he was employed by Douty Equipment of Canada Ltd. as a shipper for 30 years, retiring due to ill health. He was the beloved husband of Janice Stelma for 54 years. He was an avid golfer, hitting a hole in one in 1964. He was also a true New York Yankees fan. In 1992 Wally and Janice moved to Yarmouth to be nearer her parents. Wally is survived by his sister, Mary, Manitoba; nieces Linda and Karen, Manitoba; nephew Kevin Brown, Yarmouth. He was lovingly cared for by Susan McGuigan & family after the passing of his wife Janice. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Janice; brother Mike; sister Sophie; nephew Wayne; father and mother in law Leighton and Helen Smith. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. There will be a graveside service Monday, September 9,2019 at 11 am from the Arcadia Cemetery. Rev A.D. Bill Newell officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Yarmouth County Museum or the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation.
