Obituary for Walter John (Leo) Williams

WILLIAMS Walter John (Leo)– age 90, of Yarmouth NS, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 11, 2023. Born June 12, 1933, in Hopewell, Pictou County he was a son of the late Walter and Elinor (McNellan) Williams. Leo lived a fruitful life, being the first to acknowledge how fortunate he was. He was blessed to have his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in his life. He cherished coffee chats with the guys, trips to Florida and Maine, time at the cottage and campground, and cracking one-liners. He also cherished his time spent with his childhood friend Roy, whom he had over 80 years of friendship with.

Leo was loyal, traditional, stubborn, resilient, and lighthearted all in one. A hard worker who would stay awake at night running through the next day's project. His careers spanned many decades as Trans Canada Credit Manager, Chief Clerk of the Provincial Court and Justice of the Peace in Yarmouth.

After the loss of his first wife Joyce, he was given a new love to share with Eleanor and shared the remainder of his life with her.

Leo is survived by his wife Eleanor Williams; children; Debbie(Bob), Brian (Bonnie), Karen (Gary); step-daughter, Susan (Glen); Siblings; George (Audrey), Hughie (Beulah), Gwen (Gordon), Gordon (Barbara); grandchildren; Amanda (Martin), Melanie (Jeff), Nick, Devin (Kaitlyn), Sheldon, Jessica, Dylan, Kady (Keane), Alex (Dione), Sam (Jackie), Tanner (Robyn); and 7 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Leo was predeceased by his first wife, Joyce, and his brother Charles.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. As per Leo’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A private family graveside service will take place in Riverside Cemetery in Hebron. Donations in memory may be made to the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund or the Tri-County VON. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses on 4 North and any others who provided exceptional care over the years.
