Obituary for Truman Moore Hurlburt

Hurlburt, Truman Moore: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Truman Moore Hurlburt, aged 92, on Thursday January 18, 2018 at Mountain Lea Lodge in Bridgetown, NS. Born in Carleton, son of the late Fanny (Nickerson) and Gordon Hurlburt, predeceased by brothers Gordon, Arthur, Roland, Cecil, Ansel, Rodney, Horace and Herman; and sisters Inez (Allen), Alice (Hatfield), Janet (Robichaud) and Seretha (Sabine); survived by sisters Edith (Hamilton) and Lillian (Clements), and sister in law Lorraine Goodwin. Predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn (Earle), sister in law Audrey (Beeler) and daughter in law Joan (Connell). Survived by his sons Horace (Rita), Winslow (Helen), Lindsay (Patti); grandchildren Jessica (Gavin Abbott), Jeffery, Kristen, Stacey ( Mike Charlton); great grand children Brianna (Abbott), Darius (Crosby ), Courtney (Charlton), Cody (Charlton) , Chase (Charlton) and Taylor (Charlton). As a young man he worked in the forest and farming industry. In 1959 he moved his family to Halifax to begin a career in road construction that spanned heavy equipment operator to foreman, to superintendent, to eventually owner of a small construction company. Upon retiring in late1990s, Dad and Mom moved back to South Ohio, where they built a new house as he resumed farming, wood working, while cherishing his family, church and community. Funeral to be held January 24, 2018 at 2pm at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth officiated by Rev. Dr. Steven Hopper. Donations may be directed to the SPCA and the Baptist Church of NS.
