Obituary for Stephen Cook

Cook, Stephen Allen
August 26, 1933 to August 23, 2020

With heavy hearts we share the passing of Stephen (Steve) Allen Cook on August 23, 2020.

He is lovingly remembered by his first love, lifelong friend and devoted wife of 63 years, Nancy; his daughter Rae (Ben) and their children Westin, Patrick (Christa), Ryan (Natalie), Leah, Mark (Mariah) and grandchildren; son Glen and his son Gentry and granddaughter Harlee; and daughter Leslie (Kevin) and their children Stephanie and Geoff. Steve will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, brothers and friends.

Steve grew up in Central Chebogue, Nova Scotia with his thirteen siblings and his parents, Frank and Mildred. Pursuing his passion for agriculture, he attended the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. Upon graduation, he joined the family business, Cook’s Dairy Farm, and over the decades was a builder of this prominent enterprise in Southwestern Nova Scotia. He mentored many at the business and in the community.

Steve enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter, boater and good neighbour as a steward of their properties. The Cookie Cutter carved a wake down the Chebogue River for years as Captain Steve always found time with Nancy, family and friends to set anchor at Crawley’s Island.

Over the decades, Steve took great pride spending quality time with Nancy and family at Mink Lake. The children, and then grandchildren, were instilled with his strong work ethic, morals, and his caring behaviours and attitude. His values have been bestowed on them.

A private family service will be held according to family wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VON Canada with gift designation to VON Tri-County (www.von.ca/en/donate-now) or the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation (www.yarmouthhospitalfoundation.ca).
