Obituary for Sarah "Marcie" Marcella Rogers

Sarah Marcella (Marcie) Matheson Rogers
It is with very deep sadness that the family of Sarah Marcella (Marcie) Matheson Rogers must inform you of her death at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Nova Scotia on Saturday, February 6, 2021. Marcie was born in New Waterford, Nova Scotia on March 18, 1935 to Neil Hugh Matheson and Sarah Marcella (Johnston) Matheson. Marcie was the youngest of eleven siblings, having eight brothers: Earl Roy, Edgar Laughlin, William (Bill), Donald Weldon, James Archibald, Hugh Allan (Allie), Gerald Adrian, John Wallace and two sisters: Jessie Huett (Matheson) and Morah Woodrow (Matheson) all of whom have pre-deceased her. Upon graduating from high school in New Waterford, Marcie enrolled in the teaching program and graduated from the Normal College in Truro. Thereafter, she accepted a teaching position at the South End School in Yarmouth teaching grade 7. It was in Yarmouth, where she met her future husband Frank Leslie Rogers. Marcie was predeceased by her beloved husband Frank in February 2017. As a young woman, Marcie was always active in sports. She had a variety of interests throughout her lifetime ranging from genealogy, scuba diving, photography, ornithology, playing bridge, hunting for ancient artifacts and a great passion for music and the arts. The achievements in Marcie’s life of which she was most proud are her children and their partners, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They are: Neil Leslie Rogers/Judy Alice Pearce and their children, Dr. Leslie Anne Rogers; Major Sarah Alicia Rogers/Alex Prymack; Glynis Catherine Rogers. Karen Manning Calvert/William Patrick Calvert. Karen's daughter Chelsea Manning Colonese/Jordan Shane Colonese and their children Maisie Kate Colonese and Bennett Shane Colonese. Bruce Robert Rogers/Carol Elaine Coolen and their children Mark Nathan Rogers/Stephanie Rogers (Gagnon) and their child Tyler Clark Rogers; Megan Laura Rogers/Scott Symonds. Allan Gilbert Rogers/Jacquelin Ann Hartigan and their children Daniel Frank Rogers and Graham Allan Rogers. All their love and attention strengthened Marcie’s final days. Special thanks to the physicians and nursing staff of 4 East and 4 South of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital for their compassionate care during Marcie’s illness. There will be no visitation or funeral by Marcie’s request. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Memorial donations may be given to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital Foundation, Beacon United Church or any other charity as wished.
