Obituary for Ruth Ada Watkins

Ruth Ada (Nickerson) Watkins, age 93, of Chebogue, previously of Overton, went to be with her Lord on March 7, 2022. She passed away at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, She was born on Yarmouth Bar on June 28, 1928, the daughter of the late Vear Stanwood Nickerson and Lottie Belle (Hopkins) Nickerson. She loved the Yarmouth Bar and always called it home. Ruth was a kind, gentle, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She had a great relationship with many of her nieces and nephews. She was a faithful, devoted Christian who loved her Lord – her Bible was always near at hand. Ruth was active in her Church, Faith Memorial Church, teaching Sunday School, Women’s Missionary, always willing to help with whatever needed doing. She loved to cook, knit and sew, anyone who knew her, knew her love of doing jig saw puzzles. She worked at Tidal View Manor for a few years, which she enjoyed working with the seniors. She was involved with the Bay Shore 50 Club for many years. Ruth is survived by daughter Cathy (John Turpin), Chebogue, who cared for Ruth in their home for the last three years; and Gordon (Lisa), Yarmouth; daughter-in-law Eileen (Scoville) Watkins, Overton; always loved and in her heart, Judy (Scoville) Watkins, Yarmouth; 14 grand-children – George (Paula), Brooklyn, Janie (Dwayne Cameron), Dayton, Julie (Dave Gallant), LaCrete, AB; Sherry (Dean Gough) Westport, AB, Lorrie, St. Albert, AB, Jillian (Edmonton, AB), Maggie (Chris Nadeau), Westlock, AB; Jim (Bryann), Glenwood; Abby (Bruce Manser), Yarmouth; Melanie (Eric Simpson) Musquodoboit Harbour, Jenna (Bali), Marc and Beth (Yarmouth), Steven (Mariah Sedlak) , Elizabethtown, KY; 18 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John, the love of her life; sons Johnnie and Peter and daughter Anne. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers George, Harold, Max, Cecil, Willis and Victor, sisters Phyllis, Edith and Dorothy, great-great-granddaughter, May Gallant. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium on Friday, March 11, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. Reverend Tim Turpin, officiating. Burial, following the service, will be at North Chegoggin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to Faith Memorial Baptist Church, Overton or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
