Obituary for Roger Grant Wood

Roger Grant Wood, age 88, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2023, at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on January 12th, 1934, in Kelly’s Cove, Yarmouth County, he was a son of the late Merle Wood and Helen (Nickerson) Wood.
In his younger years Roger worked as a milkman, did roadwork with the Department of Highways, and worked at the family farm and U-Pick.
At 18 Roger moved to Ontario where he worked at GM for nearly 25 years. For a period of time, he sold cars at Downey Ford and worked as a caretaker on Partridge Island in New Brunswick before he moved to Virginia. He spent 20 years working in Virginia at Stuart Woods Apartment as a caretaker before he moved back home to Nova Scotia in 1999 to help his parents.
Roger loved fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was a jack of all trades who could fix anything and loved working with his hands. He was an avid baseball fan, especially of the Blue Jays and played with the Merchants Baseball Club in Ontario as well as numerous teams in the tri-counties.
Above all else, he was a man of God, and loved passing out tracks to fellow workers.
Roger is survived by his wife, Patricia “Muriel” Wood; daughters, Nancy, Debbie, and Mary Ann, all of Ontario; sons, Allan (Tess), Ernest (Christine), Wayne (Helen), all of Ontario; stepsons, Paul (Cally) Forsht, Michael Forsht and Steven Forsht, all of Virginia; brother, Nelson of Raynardton; sister, Faye (Ted) Ring, of Ontario, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his son, Crowell “Murray”, his brother Stuart, his parents, and his former wife Beverley.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 15, 2023, from 6-8PM at Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Service will take place on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 11AM from Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with Paster Dick Bourque officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Cemetery.
