Roderick “Junior” Murphy, 69 of Little River Harbour passed away at the Halifax Infirmary on May 21, 2022. Born in Yarmouth, November 15,1952 he was a son to the late Roderick Sr. and Leah (Fitzgerald) Murphy. Junior worked in the family business and drove school bus for over 30 years and to everyone’s attestment, he was the best bus driver ever! Everyone wanted to ride on Junior’s bus. Throughout the years he drove truck as well and there wasn’t a wharf or a spot, he couldn’t park that truck. He was a councillor for the Municipality of Argyle for 4 terms and was a people person, he loved that job immensely. He has one grandson and loved him with all he had, he was so proud of him. He had a passion for old cars and was a Chevy guy with a number of cars over the years. Junior loved being at the wharf doing what his dad taught him, buying lobsters, although he may have liked the social aspect more. He loved the fishermen and they loved him. He is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Nicole (Donnie Doucette), Yarmouth; Greg Murphy, Yarmouth; grandson, Noah Stanwood; siblings, Bill (Patricia); Mike (Sharon); Anna Barr; Eleanor (Collie) Nickerson; Marie (Darrel) Watkins; nieces and nephews, Chris , Glen, Tammy and Jodi Murphy, Warren and Scott Nickerson, Kevin, Darren and Derrick Watkins, Rod and Steve Doucet, Stephen, Colin, Lisa and Tara Armstrong, Wendy Murphy-Dennis; Craig Murphy.
Aside from his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Madeline (Roland) Doucet. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium. Yarmouth. A visitation will be Thursday, May 26th ,2022 from 7-9 pm in the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A Memorial Service will be Friday, May 27th ,2022 at 11 a.m. also in the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. A.J. Plazier officiating. Interment to follow in the Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth. The service will be webcast on Sweeny’s Funeral Home website.
