Obituary for Robert Douglas Schoots

Schoots, Robert Douglas – age 58, of Arcadia, Yarmouth Co., N.S. Passed away with his family by his side on January 24, 2021, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Ottawa, ON, on March 6, 1962, he was a son of the late Peter and Margaret (Ecker) Schoots. Robert worked for the Canadian Coastguard for over 31 years and even went on a history-making expedition to the North Pole for scientific experiments on global warming. He was an avid boater and loved the outdoors. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose grandchildren meant the world to him. Always willing to help those in need, he was known to be a jack of all trades and a bit of practical jokester, sometimes taking things a bit too far. His theory was that if he made you laugh, his job was done. He is survived by his loving wife Sandra Wells; daughters, Stephanie Schoots ( Nehemiah), Alberta, Krystina (Robbie) Aube, Alberta; sons, Cody (Megan) Wells, Rockville; and Joshua Wells; along with grandchildren, Elsa, Jacob, Hunter, Lucas, Kylie, Natan, Kataleya; and seven brothers and sisters. Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his sister, Odette. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A funeral service will take place Thursday, January 28, 2021, at 2 P.M. from Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. A.D “Bill” Newell officiating. Interment will take place in Chebogue Cemetery at a later date. In place of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be limited seating, and public health protocols will be in place. There will be a live stream of the funeral service on our Sweeny’s Funeral Home website. Online condolences may be sent to sweenysfh@eastlink.ca, or you may sign the guestbook online at www.sweenysfuneralhome.net.
