Obituary for Robert Louis Muise

Robert Louis Muise (1948-2023), a proud Quinan Métis, the son of the late Nazaire Muise and the late Imelda (Muise) Amirault, passed away peacefully at home in Quinan, NS, on May 2,2023.

After graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Forestry (1972) from the University of New Brunswick, he began his career in Le Pas, Manitoba, but the vast majority of his forestry career was spent at the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources. Robert was a caring, sensitive, and generous person who was devoted to his late wife, Marcelle (St. Pierre) Muise, and to his daughter, Rachelle Muise. He was constantly involved in many community activities. He was a founding member of the Association des Acadiens-Métis Souriquois, Secretary-Treasurer of the Yarmouth/Shelburne chapter of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture for many years, and President of the Club des Audacieux in Quinan. He served on the Southwest Nova Ducks Unlimited Chapter committee for over 40 years, and he organized the famous Quinan Wild Game Dinner in recent years.

Robert chose a career that matched his passions, since his pastimes were deeply tied to the land. He enjoyed cutting wood, hunting (especially goose hunting in PEI), fishing (especially salmon fishing in Newfoundland), planting a garden and beef farming.

In addition to his daughter, Rachelle Muise, he is survived by his 7 brothers: Sylvestre (June) Muise, Roland (Suzanne) Muise, Marcel (Kathy, deceased) Muise, Gregory (Faye) Muise, Thomas (Janice) Muise, Gerard Muise, and Pierre (Laura) Muise and his 2 precious sisters, Jeannine (Wendell) d’Eon and Claudette (John E) d’Eon, who catered 24-7 to his every need during the final phase of his bout with cancer; step brothers, Gordon (Charlotte), Terry (Vernita), Murray (Kelly), Robert (Claudette); step sisters, Helen and Elaine (Brian).

The family would like to thank everyone who greatly helped and frequently visited him during his final months, especially Tony’s Tea Room, Una, Tammy, and Eileen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Quinan’s Club des Audacieux or the Association des Acadiens-Métis Souriquois.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, in Yarmouth. Visitation took place on Saturday, May 6, 2023, between the hours of 6-8 pm. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, May 19,2023 at 2 p.m. from the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Quinan. Father Albeni d'Entremont officiating. Interment in the small Parish Cemetery, Quinan.

Bon voyage, Robert!
