Obituary for Robert Lewis Chipman

Chipman, Robert Lewis

The Chipman family of Deerfield, NS is saddened to announce the passing of their beloved husband and father, Robert L. Chipman, age 79, on December 2, 2022, at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Robert is the son of the late Donald L. and Margaret A. Chipman of Yarmouth. He is survived by his wife, Glenda, of Deerfield, NS and sons Zachariah (Sarah) of Surrey, BC and Jared (Angie) of Albury, New South Wales, Australia, brother Stephen (Mary) Dartmouth, NS as well as many nieces and nephews.

Robert graduated from Ryerson in Toronto and the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago in architecture and apprenticed with Dumaresq and Burn in Halifax, NS. For many years he practiced his profession focusing mainly on designing residences in Yarmouth County and elsewhere in southwestern Nova Scotia.

He had a lifelong interest in sports, especially baseball, golf, scuba diving and motorcycle racing. He owned and rode motorcycles with passion for most of his life. Robert was also an avid reader, especially science fiction, and a movie buff, Star Wars being his all-time favorite and he thought every child should watch the Star Wars movies. His special place was his property in Deerfield where his motocross tracks, swimming holes, skating ponds and the beauty of nature around him brought him so much joy. He was an amateur astronomer who loved to star-gaze; he could name most anything in the sky that was visible to the naked eye.

Robert’s gentle warmth and sense of humor will be missed by Glenda, Zach, Sarah, Jared, and Angie. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren Emmeline, Harrison and Maeve of Surrey, BC with whom he “FaceTimed” regularly and step-grandchildren Marvin and Nina of Albury, New South Wales, Australia.

Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by sisters Donna Cunningham and Alison Chipman
Glenda wishes to give thanks for the wonderful support she had over the past several months from Margaret-Ann Bennett and Robert and Dana Cunningham of Deerfield. Also, a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Roland Muise, Dr. Engell and the nurses of 4-East and 4-North for their kind and compassionate care.
As per Robert’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Should you choose to make a donation in his memory, it can be made to the Childrens Wish Foundation or the charity of your choice.
