Obituary for Reta "Jean" Scott

SCOTT Reta "Jean" of Yarmouth, NS, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Saviour on July 12, 2019. Born in South Ohio, she was the only daughter of Arthur and Aileen (Jackson) Winship. A deeply caring wife, mother, and grandmother, Jean loved her family dearly and they loved her right back. She also had a wide circle of wonderful cherished friends , many from childhood. A devoted Christian, Jean was a Deacon of Zion Baptist Church until it’s closure, and then found a spiritual home at Yarmouth North Baptist Church. She participated fully in her faith and was a member of Zion Guild, Woman's Missionary Society, World Day of Prayer, Baptist Convention and a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She also loved music and sang for many years in the church choir. In her community Jean was well known for her cooking and sewing skills, sharing her wares freely and widely. She was also an avid gardener and a member and past President of the Yarmouth Garden Club. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 55 years William "Bill" Scott, Yarmouth; daughters, Karen Scott and Kim (Mike) Scott Ryan, both of Yarmouth; brothers, John (Patricia) Winship, Kingston ON; Robert (Gloria) Winship, Sydney Mines; grandchildren, Kirk Smith, Megan (Kevin Schwarzer) Durkee, Kristin (Charles) Robicheau, an Aunt and Uncle in San Diego and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by brothers Kendell in infancy and Gary in early childhood. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held ‪Monday July 15, 2019 from 2-4 and ‪7-9 pm in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held Tuesday July 16, 2019 ‪at 2 pm in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Shawn Kehoe officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery in South Ohio. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund.
