Obituary

SCOTT Reta "Jean" of Yarmouth, NS, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Saviour on July 12, 2019. Born in South Ohio, she was the only daughter of Arthur and Aileen (Jackson) Winship. A deeply caring wife, mother, and grandmother, Jean loved her family dearly and they loved her right back. She also had a wide circle of wonderful cherished friends , many from childhood. A devoted Christian, Jean was a Deacon of Zion Baptist Church until it’s closure, and then found a spiritual home at Yarmouth North Baptist Church. She participated fully in her faith and was a member of Zion Guild, Woman's Missionary Society, World Day of Prayer, Baptist Convention and a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She also loved music and sang for many years in the church choir. In her community Jean was well known for her cooking and sewing skills, sharing her wares freely and widely. She was also an avid gardener and a member and past President of the Yarmouth Garden Club. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 55 years William "Bill" Scott, Yarmouth; daughters, Karen Scott and Kim (Mike) Scott Ryan, both of Yarmouth; brothers, John (Patricia) Winship, Kingston ON; Robert (Gloria) Winship, Sydney Mines; grandchildren, Kirk Smith, Megan (Kevin Schwarzer) Durkee, Kristin (Charles) Robicheau, an Aunt and Uncle in San Diego and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by brothers Kendell in infancy and Gary in early childhood. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. It is with heartfelt sympathy and love that we send condolences to you Bill and family. Jean was such a wonderful person and dedicated Christian. It was a joy to have shared with Jean and you her family for seven years (1984-1991) when I (John) was pastor at Zion Baptist Church. Her faith was demonstrated by her devotion to the Lord and by the life that she lived through the fellowship of the Church (and in particular as a Deacon) and by her involvement in the community. In the words of our Lord, "Well done, good and faithful servant! ... Come and share your Master's happiness." (Matthew 25:21) NIV. With love and God Bless, John and Ethel Beers & Family.
