Obituary for Ray Douglas Nickerson

Quietly and surrounded by his girls, Ray Douglas Nickerson of Yarmouth, NS passed away on Thursday, February 9th 2023.

Ray will be lovingly remembered by his daughters: Nancy and Dawn Nickerson; granddaughter Sarah Bresee (Devin); sister Sally Muise; sister-in-law Betty Nickerson; as well as many extended family members. He will also be missed dearly by his cats Sheldon and Lucifur.

Ray is predeceased by his loving wife, Lillian Nickerson; brother, Greg Nickerson; parents, Phyllis and Douglas; and his beloved beagle, Mikey.

Ray served in the Canadian Navy, and was very proud of his expedition to Easter Island. He dedicated his life to being a fisherman (when he wasn’t deer hunting or playing Crib, that is). Ray was an avid Boston Red Sox fan his entire life and could be heard cursing those “damn Yankees”. He could always be seen walking with his dog (and sometimes cat) around town. He never met an animal he didn’t like – people, that’s a different story. Despite his catch phrase of “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus”, Ray was always in good spirits and loved to laugh.

A visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Sunday, February 12th at Sweeny’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. A memorial service will be held the following day at 1:00pm on Monday, February 13th at Sweeney’s Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank Doctors Webster, Lefel, Sood and d’Entremont and the staff at Yarmouth Regional Hospital for their excellent care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made out to the Yarmouth SPCA or the Gilles Boudreau & Friends Cancer Help Fund Association.
