Obituary for Muriel Gaile Pitman

Pitman, Muriel “Gaile”(Swim), age 94, of Yarmouth, passed away peacefully at Yarmouth Heights on March 30, 2021. She was born in Pennsylvania, USA, in 1926 to the late William and Muriel (Duncan) Swim. Gaile was a dedicated member of Brooklyn and Temple Baptist Churches of Yarmouth. Throughout her life, from the young age of 14, she served as pianist, organist and church choir director, retiring from church music only in 2019. A graduating in 1946 from the Normal Teachers College Truro N.S., she taught in Plymouth, Arcadia, Milton, and South Centennial elementary schools, both classroom and music. She enjoyed many activities: making quilts for her children and grandchildren, knitting, baking, bowling, gardening feeding the birds, travelling and camping. She is survived by her children, Glenn (MaryAnn), Marlene Knowles, Susan, Bonnie (Rick), Werner, Mark (Delise), and Miles (Angela), as well as 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband James ‘Allison’ Pitman; brothers, Verne, Victor and Courtney; sister, Betty Cleveland; great-grandson, Nathan Pitman and great-granddaughter, Freya Piqugard. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A Memorial Service will be held on September 12, 2021, at 2 pm from Temple Baptist Church, Rev Raymond Pitcher officiating. Interment to follow in the Brooklyn Cemetery. Memorial donations in Gaile’s memory may be made to Temple Baptist Church or Tri-County VON.
