Pennell, Mildred, 99, of The Villa St. Joseph du Lac, formerly of Brenton, went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2020, with her family by her side. Born in Port Maitland, she was a daughter to the late Albert and Odessa (Floyd) Rose of Darlings Lake. She was the youngest of 10 children and the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mildred was a homemaker most of her married life, although working from time to time for Rozee’s Photo Studio and Sears . She also taught sewing classes from home for many years. She truly loved family gatherings, whether it be for Christmas or any other occasion where the opportunity would arise for one. She was a great baker, and anyone who tried her molasses cookies enjoyed them. In later years she filled her time with knitting, jigsaw puzzles, word search and visiting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored. She is survived by her son, Larry (Audrey) Pennell, Brenton; daughters, Beverly Ryerson, Brenton; Kimberly (Keith) Duncanson, Brenton; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward; sisters, Estella Stevens; Frances Harris; Thelma Rose; Muriel Muise; Jennie Rose; brothers, Herbert; James; Weldon; Clarence; grandson, Wilson; son in law, Gordon. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A Visitation will be Wednesday, September 30, from 1-2 pm followed by a funeral service at 2 pm both from the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Larry Pennell officiating. Interment to take place at the Brenton Hilltop Cemetery. Memorial donations in Mildred's memory may be made to the Brenton Hilltop Cemetery or the New Life Church. Thank you to the staff at Villa Saint Joseph du lac for her wonderful care. Online condolences may be sent to or you may sign the guest book on-line at

I have known Mildred since I was a young child and enjoyed her kindness and thoughtfulness on many visits at the Pennell home over the years and after I moved away from Yarmouth. She was always the same beautiful lady with such a fun sense of humour. Somehow she knew about my favourite meal as a child and she always made it when I came to visit. She always had a way of making every one feel special. I cherish my memories of this lovely lady. Our condolences to the family, as you remain in our thoughts and prayers.

The Life and Times Of Mildred Rose- Pennell
A Lengthy And Remarkable Journey, For Sure.

The life and times of Mildred Rose Pennell was a remarkable journey, for sure;
The time God granted her here was just a few months shy of five score.
The loving wife of Edward Pennell I must say what a wonderful man;
I cannot speak for anyone else but I will be forever his fan.
I believe beside every good man there walks a good woman, too;
And to this beautiful couple I believe much credit is due.
Together they raised up three children Beverly, Larry and Kim;
No, there are not perfect people but they don't come much better than them!

I've always considered this Pennell family to be a beacon of Light;
I don't mind telling anyone I'll always be proud to be a Brentonite.
In my view the families of this village are truly the salt of the earth;
For they taught me the real value about what a caring village is worth.
Getting back to Mildred, well, what else can you say?
Other than you don't get to meet women of her kind every day!
Though only small in physical stature I'm told that she would stand her ground;
She firmly stood on the principles that she thought were Biblically sound.

I'm told that whenever she spoke that she meant what she said;
I believe it takes a firm, loving hand to properly raise up the kid.
When you look at the family her and Edward must have done something right;
To have had them as neighbors and friends it truly has been a delight.
Just like the rose flower family I'm sure this Rose family, too, had their thorns;
For I've heard Larry say many times that it would be unwise to lock horns.
He said his mother's words were concise and her boundaries were clearly defined;
But he said at the very same time her heart was as equally kind.

She dearly loved her grandchildren as she did her nephews and nieces;
And I've also been told that they all loved her to pieces.
As for her sisters and brothers Mildred was dearly cherished;
As I said she is the last of the lot for they now have all perished.
But coming from a family of ten I'm sure they had their family spats;
For I come from a big family, as well and we fought like a bunch of tomcats.
The secret for a large family to properly function is learning of how to mix grit with grace;
And the sooner this secret is learned and applied the sooner family unity takes place.

But as for the legacy that Mildred has left it will continue on living;
No, this is not wishful thinking rather it's an absolute given!
For Mildred has set an example for us that I would personally rate second to none;
And I'm sure when she met her Lord face to face the words she heard were, “Well done.”
I realize in writing these verses I've only given you a glimpse of her lengthy life story;
In regards to her remarkable journey she would want for me to give God all the Glory!
Today we can take comfort in knowing and we can rest fully assured;
That our departed loved one and friend is now with her Saviour and Lord.

For those who die in the Lord Jesus Christ, death does not mark the end;
It's my hope that lives will be touched by these heartfelt words that I've penned.
I count it both a privilege and honor to have known this woman of God;
she most certainly made a remarkable difference during her life here on this sod.
