Melissa Joy Nickerson passed away peacefully on October 9, 2019 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital, surrounded by family. Born in Yarmouth on June 11, 1980, she was a daughter to David L. and Nancy R. (DeViller) Bain. Melissa was a proud mother to Reese Elizabeth Nickerson and Brynn Adele Nickerson and loving wife to Jeffrey M. Nickerson. She is also survived by her brother, Donovan (Carmen) Bain, Brooklyn; sister Amanda (Mark) Nickerson, Mavillette; and maternal grandparents Stephen and Wilma DeViller; as well as many friends. Family and friends were everything to her. Melissa was outgoing and would try anything once. If someone dared to tell her that she couldn’t do something she would smile and say, “Watch Me!”. On one hand she was the Seafest Queen and competed in the Miss Canada pageant, but on the other hand she would play hockey with boys and fished with her husband on their lobster boat. She also worked at Canadian Tire, RBC, and Novatec Braids. Although her life was cut short, she made sure to experience it to the fullest, going on family vacations and not shying away from new experiences. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents Merle and Lorna Bain. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A celebration of Melissa’s life will be held Saturday October 12, 2019 at 11 a.m. from Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mitchell DeWare officiating. In Lieu of flowers the family would ask a donation to be made to the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund. A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Especially the VON, palliative care, cancer clinic, and the nurses on 3 south for their kind and compassionate care.
