Obituary for Mary "Donna" Freeman

Freeman, Mary “Donna”- Age 77, passed away peacefully at The Meadows Home For Special Care with her daughters by her side after a long journey with dementia . Born in Yarmouth on February 21st, 1946 to George Alfred “Mike” Muise and Mary Jessie (Moulaison) of Yarmouth. In her early years, Donna worked at the Royal Store but then became a stay at home Mom when the first of her 3 daughters were born. She returned to work when her daughters were teenagers as a House Mother at the Residence for the School of Nursing in Yarmouth and then later worked in the housekeeping department at Tidal View Manor for 19 years. Donna had a great sense of humor and loved to socialize and spend time with her friends, playing cards and scrabble over a good cup of tea. She was an avid reader and liked puzzles. Donna was a great athlete in her younger years, playing school soccer and volleyball but basketball was her favorite. She was very competitive and showed great sportsmanship. She was thrilled when her daughter Jolynn and granddaughters Monique and Josette followed in her footsteps and was often at their games cheering them on. Donna enjoyed watching figure skating on tv and loved music. She would have those around her laughing in stitches with her as she tapped her foot or did silly little dances. Donna loved her daughters dearly and was very much a hands on mom. She was always volunteering with the groups that they were involved in. She was a Girl Guide leader and sewed uniforms for Yarmouth’s Sailorette Group. She was a talented seamstress, making her own work uniforms, her daughters prom dresses and even her daughter Bonnie’s wedding dress. Donna’s grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved spending time with them, reading to them and bringing them to playgrounds and to Dollarama for treats before sleepovers.

Donna was predeceased by both of her parents and middle daughter Marsha Dawn Freeman. Donna will be dearly missed by her loved ones-daughters Bonnie (Rene) Dugas of Hebron and Jolynn (Tommy) Muise of SAR, brother Paul (Ellen) Muise of Alymer, Quebec, sister Doris Anne Muise of Yarmouth, a few remaining cousins, and grandchildren Monique, Josette, Jacob and Caley. Donations can be made to Meadowfield School’s Playground Fund or breakfast program. Cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside burial service on Monday, Sept 25th at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery at 1pm for family and friends with Deacon Bruce Hubbard officiating. Everyone is welcome to attend a gathering at Jacobs Loft at Sweeny's Funeral Home at 2pm. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Meadows Home for Special Care, Dr. Horton and Dr. Chandler for their exemplary care of Donna.
