DeMings, Mary Alice- age 98 of Brooklyn, Yarmouth Co. formerly of Kelly’s Cove, passed away peacefully on Friday May 20,2022 at home. Mary was born May 4, 1924, in Kelly’s Cove, Yarmouth Co., NS. and was a daughter to the late Charles and Nellie (Lent) Poole. She was a homemaker her entire life who took great pride in her family. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was affectionately known as Nanny D by her great-grandchildren. She was well known for her baking and cooking abilities and earned the nickname “Donut Lady” for her sought-after donuts and cinnamon rolls. She also loved to play BINGO and was an avid knitter. Mary is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Mike) Clayton, Brooklyn; grandchildren, Justin (Krista) Clayton, Yarmouth; Courtney (Justin) LeBlanc, Lawrencetown; great-grandchildren, Kayden Clayton; Carter and Logan LeBlanc; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; siblings, Donald, Fred, Stephen, Gordon, Doris, and Margaret in infancy, Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 31, 2022, from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 1 p.m. also from the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. A.D Bill Newell officiating. The service will be live-streamed on Sweeny’s Funeral Home website. Interment to take place in Chebogue Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to the Chebogue Cemetery Fund.
