MARY ELAINE COOPER

Mary E. Cooper of Yarmouth passed away on October 24, 2022, at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Mary was born in Yarmouth on February 28, 1945 and spent most of her life here. She was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Katherine Harris as well as her brother, Douglas Harris. She is survived by her husband, John Irvine Cooper and her two sons David (and his two children Madelyn and Delaney) South Carolina and Michael Calgary, Alberta. Also left to mourn are her brother William Surette in Newfoundland and sisters Barbara Dalton and Carol Ryan (Gerald) in Ontario. Mary had a special love and attachment with her Aunt Louise Elsner of Truro who gave her support when she lost her parents at an early age.

Mary was a long-term employee at the Bank of Montreal but took a leave of absence for several years when her family was young. She was also a regular volunteer at the Yarmouth Hospital gift shop for many years and worked at the annual Hullabaloo. Mary's love and trust in our Lord was very strong and she and John were faithful members of Zion United Baptist Church until it closed in 1994. Mary and John then joined the welcoming congregation at Yarmouth Wesleyan.

By request, cremation has taken place under the care of Sweeny's Funeral Home. A celebration of Mary’s Life will be held Wednesday April 5, 2023 at 2 P.M. from Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Hockley officiating. A small gathering in Jacob's Loft will follow the service. Interment will take place in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery, family only please.
