Marie Clow Obituary
September 24, 1925 - February 17, 2022
Our beautiful mother, Marie Charline Clow, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2022, at the age of 96, at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital with her daughter, Ann Clow, by her side.
She is survived by her daughters, Ann Clow and Jacqueline Clow, Step son Bruce Clow, Jr.(Marcia), Niece Fiona, Nephew, Peter Gurney(Angela). She was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Bruce Clow, sister, Helen Goodine, brother, Gordon Goodine and his wife Nina, and Step daughter, Sandra Gurney. Marie was born in Dumfries, N.B. and was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Verta Goodine.
At the age of 95, Marie still had the passion to paint and was an inspiration to others. In her family, there were many generations of artists including her mother, sister, great grandmother, and her mother's brother Rev. Randolph Nicholson who became a very well known artist in Sussex, N.B. He recognized Marie's talent at a young age by her endless sketchbooks, so he helped her perfect her technique. Marie still has lots of her artwork saved from the past. Her daughter, Ann Clow, followed in her footsteps.
Marie Clow was quite the successful business woman of her time. This shy young lady started a canteen business on the Trans Canada Highway not far from her home in N.B. where she sold lunches along with her mother's scrumptious pastries which was the truck driver's favourite treat. She also worked at a Fredericton local school, a drug store, and a waitress at Regent Restaurant. She met her husband, Bruce Clow, while working at a Children's Aid Home in Fredericton that was owned by Bruce's mother, Louise Clow.
Since Bruce was in the Royal Canadian Air Force, they were able to travel throughout Europe and lived in Germany during the occupation World War II for 2 years. They also resided a short time in various places in Ontario and New Brunswick, but settled permanently in Yarmouth, N.S. They opened a lucrative hotel and restaurant supply family business called Bruce's Distributors.
Marie was a very kindhearted, humble, and caring person. She was well loved by everyone who knew her, and was a devoted mother, wife, and always had time to give to others. Along with her witty sense of humour, she loved people and nature, especially watching different species of birds. Marie will be sadly missed.
There will be no funeral service. Cremation will be entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home in Yarmouth, N.S. Donations can be made to a non profit group of your choice.
