Obituary for Margaret Jean Smith

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Margaret Jean Smith at Valley Regional Hospital on April 22, 2023. She was born January 19, 1941, in Yarmouth to Joseph and Ida Smith.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harry; brother, William (in infancy); sister, Shirley; grandson, Adam.
She lived a simple life but was adamant that she does it her way, after saying “Nobody is going to tell me what to do”. She loved being where the action was and being the center of attention. She loved being teased and her squeals and laughter were heard often when her grandson tickled her ribs. In her later years she had a collection of cats that she loved dearly.
She was a wonderful cook, friends and family enjoyed her duck stew and dumplings as well as her homemade rolls and bread.
She was a frugal shopper and loved a good bargain but if you were in need of anything Margaret was right there to provide for you, no matter what it was.
Special thank you to Matthew who was her guardian angel on earth, watching over her, doing her chores, tending her cats when she went for extended visits and especially for noticing something was wrong when her curtains weren’t opened on that fateful morning. Your love and kind attention to Margaret is greatly appreciated.
Also thank you to Bev and Donny for her pre-hospitalization care.
Margaret is survived by her son, Randy (Patricia) and daughter, Wendy (Murray Miller); grandchildren, Arthur (Nicole); Gillian (Ivan Carver) and great grandson, Noah Smith Hatt; nieces, Beverly, Debbie, Doreen, and Tammy; nephew, Kenny as well as many relatives and family too numerous to mention. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Funeral Service will be Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 10:00 AM. Rev. Larry Pennell officiating. Interment to follow the service in Cheggogin Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.sweenysfuneralhome.net.
Memorial donations may be made to S.H.A.I.D.
