Obituary for Malcolm Roscoe Burrill

BURRILL, Malcolm Roscoe - age 88, of Bridgewater, NS went home to be with his Lord on January 25, 2020. Born in Yarmouth on May 6, 1931 he was the son of the late Connie and Clissie (Nickerson) Burrill. Malcolm worked in Cosmos Imperial Mill before attending Mt. Allison University, Acadia University and Dalhousie’s Maritime School of Social Work where he received his Masters degree in Social Work in 1970. The majority of his working career was in Bridgewater where he was Director of Lunenburg County’s Children Aid Society and Family and Children’s Services for Lunenburg County until his retirement in 1986.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Bertha (Russell) Burrill; daughters Stephanie Burrill and Kimberly (Morgan) Lalonde; and grandchildren Becky and Joshua Lalonde. He enjoyed the love and support of his siblings: Geraldine Mercer, New Westminster, BC; Victor (Hazel) Burrill, Saint John, NB; Virginia (Arlyn) Colp, Colpton, NS; Edward (Beatrice) Burrill, Liverpool, NS; Hazel (Gerrit) DeBorst, Rotonda West, FL; and Nancy (Wendell) Hillman, Fredericton, NB. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister Shirley Gray and brothers Richard and Hubert.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. A funeral service will be held at Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel on February 8, 2020 at 1 PM with Pastor Tim Garren officiating. There will be no visitation by family request. Interment will follow at a later date at Mountain Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
