Condolence: In the late 80s when I noticed that Mike started to tease, I understood that the Apple was indeed close to the Tree.
On the countless nights and days of our childhood that I visited with my best friend, Sheri, I nearly always found that Tree outside. He was always puttering at something, just coming back from hunting or just leaving to go out in the woods. He’d get me going with some snappy remark and if I was shy at first, I got over it with him so I could jab back. Sarah, in the kitchen, could tell I had not gotten through the door unscathed and would remind me that he was teasing. Back then, in a tease-back, I rechristened him ‘La-Loyd’. I’ve been fairly good at reminding him over the years that he has an extra L that needs to be pronounced.
While many adults ignored us kids, La-Loyd delighted in our silliness. I will always remember how he appreciated each of the people around him.
And, I appreciated him.
Sarah, Mike and Sheri, I am sorry that you are experiencing this painful time. I hope that the deep roots that the Tree La-Loyd provided, and the many branches Lloyd saw grow and took the time to appreciate in your families, will now hold you fast together.
