Obituary for Leland Clifford Donaldson

DONALDSON Leland Clifford- age 84 of Nakile Home for Special Care passed way peacefully at Nakile on October 18,2019. Born in Cape Sable Island on February 4,1935 he was a son to the late Wallace R. and Maude D. (Ross) Donaldson. Leland had salt in his veins and was a fisherman for over 40 years. He started fishing when he was 14 years and only retired well into his 60’s. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved his family dearly. In his retirement he enjoyed travelling with his wife on bus tours, deer hunting, and making pot heads for local fisherman. He also made hammocks which he sold to people and donated to various community organizations. Leland was also a Deacon at two churches. Throughout his working career Leland would take other jobs such as Irish mossing, picking apples in Maine in the fall, and working on the Bluenose. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Joan (Atkinson) Donaldson; their children, Richard (Deborah), Patricia (Walter) Muise, Charlene (Anson) d’Entremont, Bonnie (Brian) Crooks; sisters, Helen Nickerson; Iona Smith; brothers, Elbern (Sylvia); Paul (Brenda); grandchildren, Tara, Adam, Joshua, Sara, Joel, Andy, Kara, Kyle, Kayla, Natasha, Cody, Devon, Victoria, Laura, Sarah; 20 great grandchildren; former daughter in law, Shelley; and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Besides his parents Leland was predeceased by his son, David Donaldson; sisters, Erma (Harold) Smith; Annis (Herman) Young; brothers, Wallace, Wellington, Eugene, Merle, John (Joan). Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A funeral service will be held Sunday, October 20,2019 at 3 P.M. from the Argyle Pubnico Baptist Church with Rev, Mitchell DeWare officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Pubnico. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Camp Peniel or Nakile Home for Special Care.
