Obituary for Leigh Cordell Cunningham

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leigh Cordell Cunningham, age 80 of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Leigh passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 15, 2023, at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on the Hawk on January 13, 1943, he was the son of the late Randolph and Eleanor (Smith) Cunningham. He is survived by his loving wife Bernadette (DeViller) Cunningham; daughters, Paula (Philip) Mailman, and Trina (Jason) Thomas; son, T.J. Cunningham (Amanda); sister, Hazel (Victor) Burrill; brother, Owen (Marina); grandson, Alex Stoddard (Shania); step-children, Shirley (Bobby) Nickerson, Pamela (Peter) Muise, Gregory (Stephanie) DeViller, Rick (Nadine) DeViller, Keith DeViller (Brigitte); 10 step-grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Leigh was predeceased by his siblings Ruth Morton, Myrtle Nickerson, Norman Cunningham, Blanchard Cunningham, Gayton Cunningham and step-daughter Marilyn Doucette. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. As per Leigh's wishes there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 11 a.m. from New Testament Baptist Church on the Hawk with Rev. Craig Minard and Gary Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow in Oakvale Cemetery in Clarks Harbour. The family would like to thank the VON, the doctors and nurses on 4 North, paramedics, and family and friends for the many visits (you know who you are).
