Obituary

Smith, Kathleen Lorraine “Kay”, 93 of Yarmouth passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 30,2020 in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born September 13,1926 in Cape Forchu, she was a daughter to the late Gordon and Abigail (Hunt) Smith. Kay is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a long-time employee of Sobeys in Yarmouth, having worked there for 32 plus years. She was a member of the Evangel Assembly, Yarmouth. Kay is survived by daughter, Sharon, Yarmouth; grandchildren, Shonda; Krista (Adam); Cindy (Richard); 6 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren. Kay was the last surviving member of her immediate family and besides her parents she was predeceased by her siblings, Willis; Eric; Alden; John; Paul; Bernice; Muriel; Ruth and Violet. Funeral arrangements been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be Monday, February 3, 2020 from 7-9 pm in the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 4,2020 at 2pm from the Evangel Assembly Church, Yarmouth. Rev Nathan Hill officiating. Burial in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society. Have know Kay since the day I stated working at sobeys in 1982.very lovely person she was when I was home in September 2019 I stopped in to visit her. Many good memories we shared.TO the family Thinking of you at this difficult time. Sorry for your loss

Kay worked with my Dad at sobeys for a number of years..those were the days when people kinda looked after other peoples children..i think i will always think of her as my "Sobeys Mother"..❤iris nickerson

My heartfelt sympathies to Kay’s family. I loved visiting her at Sankey Manor for many laughs over a cup of tea. She’s now with Jesus whom she loved and served..what a HOPE we have of seeing her again. Love and prayers.

Our deepest condolences to all of Kay's family. Kay was such a special lady, and we have so many fond memories of our time at Evangel and the years spent knowing her.
