Obituary for Joseph Loran Atkinson

With broken hearts, Joe Loran Atkinson passed away August 11,2020, after a long courageous battle with brain cancer. Joseph was born in Wedgeport, February 15,1958 to Margaret Atkinson and the late Felton Atkinson. He was a fisherman for all of his working life aboard Joseph & Claude, also scalloping on the Muktuk until he was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2007. Beating all odds, sadly cancer returned. Joe was an active member of the Pleasant Lake Baptist Church. He absolutely loved his family and adored his granddaughters. Joe’s greatest accomplishments were watching his boys turn into young men and being hard workers. He enjoyed his many trips to the Valley having breakfast with Corey and Greg. He is survived by his loving family, wife, Karen (Jeffrey) Atkinson; sons, Timothy, his wife Jenna Muise and their daughter , Jordyn; Corey, his wife Michelle Pauze and their daughters, Natalie and Lexi; his only brother, Claude (Tiffany Webster); nieces, Julie, Autumn and Katie; sister in law, Beverlee Jacquard. Joe was very close to Beverlee and her family. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Donations in memory may be made to Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund, which was very dear to Joe and his family’s heart. Interment to take place at a later date. A special thank you to Dr. David Webster and his wife Marilyn. Joe always said David was more like a friend than a doctor. Online condolences may be sent to sweenysfh@eastlink.ca, or you may sign the guestbook online at www.sweenysfuneralhome.net.
