Prout, John Alton- age 91, of East Kemptville, Yarmouth Co., N.S. passed away peacefully at Yarmouth Regional Hospital on February 3, 2018. Born in Kemptville Yarmouth Co., on April 2, 1926 he was a son to the late James Arthur and FayAlene (Randall) Prout. John was a WWII Veteran who served from 1944-1946 and then worked many years in the logging industry and as a guide at Oak Hill and Birchdale Camps. After moving to Ontario he worked at TPT and DuPont Whitby. Next he moved to Huntsville where he owned and operated Red Deer Cottages and Campground. John was a lover of all things nature. He was an avid outdoors-man who loved to hunt, fish, and then tell stories of hunting and fishing. He is survived by his daughters, Carmen Cope (Lawrence Smith), Shelley Prout; sons, John Prout Jr. (Judy), James Prout; 7 grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren and many great and great great- grandchildren. John was the last surviving member of his immediate family and besides his parents was predeceased by his wife, Jeanette (nee Bethune), brothers and sisters. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Friday February 9, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. at Sweeny’s Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel Saturday February 10 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Jim Rhyno officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Kemptville. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Tri county V.O.N or the Kemptville United Baptist Church.
