Obituary for John Charles Murphy Sr.

MURPHY, John Charles – of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia passed away on April 8, 2023 at the age of 86. He was surrounded by his family at the Villa Acadienne in Meteghan. Born June 11, 1936 he met his wife Elsie Murphy and spent many wonderful years with her until her passing in 2011. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Alvita(Madden) Murphy, his brothers and sisters, son Gary, daughter Laurabell and grandson Jeremy. He is survived by his daughters Patricia(husband Kenney), Beverly (husband Peter), Sharon(husband David), Sandra(husband Stephen), sons Willis(wife Dawn), Bruce(wife Margo), John(wife Nicolette) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved dearly. A hobby he enjoyed was race car driving and was a “jack of all trades”. John worked many different trades in his life, fishing, tending the Bug light on Bunkers Island, driving cab, carpentry, lobster plants but spent most of his career as a propane service technician. He once won an award for the fastest service technician and it included a trip to Expo in Vancouver which he and Elsie made the trip together. He retired from Speedy Propane after 30 years of service, after an accident at Bunkers Island. There will be a visitation, Wednesday, April 12,2023 from 7-9 pm in the Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel, Yarmouth.
Services to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 1:00pm also in the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with Major Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Chegoggin Cemetery.
