Obituary

Jeanette Ruth Gavel

Jan 10 1934 – April 20 2020

Ruth Gavel passed away in Yarmouth Hospital after a short illness with Leukemia and Alzheimer’s.
She was a devoted stay at home Mom raising her three children but found several ways to work part time. She was a sales representative for Avon, picked strawberries for Bob Gavel (Father-in -law) and worked in the kitchen at Arcadia School for the lunch program for many years.

In later years, when her children were grown, she and Dad were avid campers and loved having their grandchildren stay with them at their favourite campground, Fundy Spray, for many years.

For all of her life she had a sincere love for God that she passed onto her children. The Wesleyan Church was a large part of her life and she made many friends while attending there.

Mom was a very social person who touched all that she met, with her kindness and giving of her time. She loved having family functions, swimming and spending time with the grand children. She was truly one of a kind.

She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Gavel, her father James Churchill, her mother Vera Gray (Dunn) and her step-father Roy Gray She is survived by her three children. James Gavel (Heather) Judy Gavel, Gary Gavel(Debbie) and a sister Eleanor Sollows. Grandchildren, Jason Amon(Daphne),Jeremy Amon, Brad Gavel, Beth Gavel and Brenna Gavel. Great grandchildren, Monisa Boudreau, Arielle Jackson-Amon, Dawson Amon, Ava Amon, Mia Amon, Aria Gavel, Gage Gavel and Jonah Gavel. One great great grandchild Lyric Jackson-Amon.

Thank you to Dr.Lisa Gillis, and Robin Surette in Pallitive Care, the staff at Yarmouth Heights, and the nurses and Doctors on 4th Floor North that made her last days as comforable as they could in the middle of the Covid-19 crisis.

Memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer Society of Canada.

Due to the current pandemic, there will be no visitation or service at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, to be announced.

So saddened to hear about your mother's passing. We have so many wonderful memories of her and your family while living in High Falls and also of our later summer family visits to Yarmouth. She was a truly treasured family friend - so much fun to be around. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
