Obituary for Janet Merton DeMille

Janet Merton DeMille of Yarmouth, NS, passed away at home on February 17, 2024. She was born on May 15, 1945, and was the youngest daughter of John and Hilda (Boyd) Robbins.

In her early years, she attended secretarial college and worked in several local businesses before becoming a medical secretary for Dr. Belmano and Dr. Legere. In 1975, she put her business skills into her own business when she and her husband Phil opened Pied Piper Music Ltd., which she ran successfully for many years until she retired. Because of the music store, Janet was very knowledgeable about the local music scene, especially in supporting her husband in his many musical endeavors. In 2007, she took a leading role in the Coal Shed Music Festival, serving as secretary, an annual charitable event that was extremely important to her and Phil.
Janet had a strong faith in God her whole life and enjoyed attending Yarmouth North Baptist Church every Sunday, where she was an active member in the choir ladies' auxiliary, and helped with vacation bible school, and served in many capacities wherever she could. She always had a smile and enjoyed many friendships amongst the congregation.
Janet was a loving wife, mother, and Grammy. She loved to cook, sew, and knit in her spare time when she was able. She was very proud of her two boys and her beloved grandchildren. Her greatest joy was her family. She welcomed her grandchildren every day after school with snacks, hugs, and love.

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Philip DeMille. You rarely saw one without the other, they were true partners in life. Also, her two much-loved sons, Shawn and Shannon, daughter-in-law Heidi, and her 4 grandchildren, whom she adored: Shelby, Nolan, Bridget, and Hannah. She is also survived by her nieces, Sheila, Mary, and Sarah, who held a special place in her heart.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, John and Hilda, her brother, John (Savi) Robbins, her sister, Ellen Nicholson, and her special brother-in-law, Nick Nicholson.

Donations in memory of Janet may be made to Yarmouth North Baptist Church.
