Obituary for James Harris

Harris, James, 84 of the Villa Acadienne, Metaghan, passed away peacefully on February 15,2020. Born in Newfoundland, he is a son to the late Chesley and Katherine (Furlong) Harris. James was an Aero Engineer Mechanic by trade, working for the military for 36 plus years. Postings included overseas throughout Europe including Germany and various peacekeeping missions in worn torn/impoverished countries including Africa. He also worked on helicopters for Search and Rescue in Gander, NL for Search and Rescue missions throughout the maritime provinces. In his retirement he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was well known for his quiet, friendly nature. He was a much-loved family man and friend to all and was actively involved in various community activities in his home town of Buchans, NL. Survived is his loving wife of 62 years, Elizabeth (Bailey); daughter, Arlene (Todd Herridge) Harris, Lower Wedgeport; one step grandchild, Steven Herridge; brothers, Maxwell; Harold; Lloyd; Griffin; Bill; Beaton; sister Donnie. He was predeceased by his parents as well as son, Mark Harris; siblings, Jessie; Bana; Jackie; Gordon; Brian; Bob and Genevieve. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. There will be no Funeral Service at this time, however a Legion Service will be held Wednesday, February 19,2020 at 2pm. from Sweenys Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at a later date.
