Obituary for Irene Mary Manthorne

MANTHORNE, Irene Mary, 86 of Yarmouth passed away peacefully on August 24,2019 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Yarmouth, N.S., on December 26,1932 she was the daughter of the late Winston Edward Scoville and Lillian Frances (Hubbard) Scoville. Irene was a dedicated member of the Temple Baptist Church where she held many different positions throughout the years such as, superintendent for Sunday schools, headed up ladies’ group, and treasurer to name a few. Irene worked in retail for most of her working career in different stores such as, Gateway Outlet, Quality Shoe Store and Agnew Shoe Store. She also enjoyed spending time making puzzles, doing jigsaw puzzles, reading,many hours playing board and cards games, camping, going for Sunday drives, and spending time with her friends and family. She will be missed by her husband of 42 years, David Manthorne; daughters, Judy (Stephen) Cottreau, Wedgeport; Marie (Paul) Mombourquette, South Ohio; Muriel (Roger) Wood, Raynardton; Gail (Kevin) Fitzgerald, Kellys Cove; sons, Randall (Anne) Muise, Halifax; Thomas (Peggy) Muise, Yarmouth; Derrick (Apryl) Muise, Darlings Lake; brother, Gerald (Rose) Scoville; sisters, Joyce Grant, Victoreen (John) Deveau; Gloria Rozon, Leta Deveau; and Louise Fox; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her son, Joseph Muise; stepson, Darrell Manthorne; brothers, Kenneth, Donald, and Wallace Scoville; sister, Pauline Doucette. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Wednesday August 28, 2019 from 7-9 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation will then take place with a memorial service taking place Friday August 30, 2019 at 2 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Gates and Rev. Raymond Pitcher officiating. Interment will follow in Chebogue Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory may be made to the Temple Baptist Church or the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help fund.
